The CAAFlog covers opinion from the CAAF (i.e. the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces) just like we cover every opinion from the First. For those that are not into military justice, but are interested in seeing what a system of justice that gives a bit more than a rat’s ass about criminal defendants, this blog is worth a read. It is also written by someone cooler than me.
In case you have been living under a rock, the CAAF is an Article I Court, that hears discretionary appeals from the “Service Courts of Appeal.” It is appealed to the Supreme Court. Its judges serve for 15 years. By its nature, 100% of its appeals are criminal. Therefore it has significant expertise in defining crimes and dealing with crim pro and evidentiary issues.
