More on Sherri Jefferson

As you know, Ms. Jefferson was the public defender sentenced to 30 days for contempt in Georgia (see our earlier post here). I wanted to see more source materials.  And “Defending the Public” has uploaded some 33 pages.  (Tnx CDW) A full hearing on the issue would, at a minimum, the accusations against 1) Ms. Jefferson; 2) Judge Roundreee; and 3) several memers of the clerks' office (who are accused of a) using vulgarity; b) deliberately dropping papers for people to Ms. Roundree to pick up; and c) screaming at Ms. Jefferson).  Defending the Public concludes by saying:

These supporting documents paint a troubling picture of the Glynn County Juvenile Court, detailing the court’s consistent failure to provide timely opportunity for determining whether arrestees are eligible for appointed defense counsel; draconian treatment of detained children; and, a great deal of disrespect from both Judge Rountree and Assistant District Attorney Frank Aspinwall being directed toward attorneys from the Circuit Defender in general and Ms. Jefferson in specific.

Some of the incidents recounted, are just plain stupid and sad.  A judge actually made a video (directed at school children) in which, apparently, he told them not to talk back to teachers.  Then he made lawyers watch it!  What the hell is a judge doing making a video.  Judges decide contested issues.  They don’t raise everyone’s damn kid.  Also, the head Public Defender explains how Jesus guides his interactions with is clients.
